Welcome to Challenge #3
Blind Leading the Blind
For this competition, your tribe will need three players:
1. Leader / Navigator
2. Mathematician
3. The Blind
Yes, this competition is inspired by the challenge on the actual show (with some modifications of course).
Let's first discuss each role, what is needed of you, how theses roles interlock.
1. The Leader in this challenge is the caller. There is a virtual maze and the BLIND
is inside it trying to collect items to take to the drop off point.
2. The Mathematician is in charge of deciding what the tribe needs to collect.
3. The Blind must have a computer / laptop. They should have arrow keys.
They are blinded and are stuck inside the maze. They rely on the leader to tell them
where to go.
----------- How the competition works-----------
1. All players will go on ZOOM. The mathematician and the leader
will see a maze that looks like this:
2. As the Blind is blindfolded. They will NOT have an idea where they are on this maze.
They have no IDEA what the maze looks like either. All they have is the leader's directions.
3. In this example, the BLIND is that blue box on the maze.
4. The leader is giving them instructions. "Press right arrow twice, up arrow once"
If the blind correctly follows all the instructions, they should end up looking like this.
5. They have successfully changed location.
6. The black spaces are walls / traps. IF YOU HIT any of them,
you will receive a +2 min penalty.
In the sample below the blind accidentally pressed MORE times than
necessary:
They crashed on the wall, thus collecting +2 min penalty.
So the blind should be a great listener with good composure.
7. As you can see there are items on the maze. These items correspond to POINT values.
8. Only the Mathematician will have a COPY of the point values. The leader has NO clue
what the points are as the point values are sent privately to the Mathematician.
9. At the start of the challenge (when your time starts), the host will give you a math prompt.
"Collect four items that will give you a tribe total of 16 pts"
10. It is the mathematician's duty to decide what four items need to be collected that will add up
to 16 points. There are MULTIPLE possible solutions to these prompts. As long as you get
The 16 pts necessary (using four items) your mission is complete.
SAMPLE
Host said: Collect Four items that will correspond to 16 pts.
Mathematician: I think we need Flint that's 8. Strawberry that's 2
Jackfruit is 3 and papaya is 3. The total amount should be 16 pts!
Mathematician will tell the leader "collect FLINT, Strawberry, jackfruit, and papaya!
Now the leader / navigator will start yelling instructions at the blind.
they must lead the blind to each item. The moment the blind is standing on the
said item, they must yell "COLLECT", if they realize they collected the wrong
item they can yell "DROP".
When they have successfully led the blind to all four correct items, collected them, they
must now lead the blind to the drop off point. From here the leader may say "STOP TIMER".
___________________________________________
This is just a sample round, expect a bigger maze, more items, and math prompts that will
INVOLVE DECIMALS in the actual game <3
___________________________________________
1. Results are decided based on TIME.
2. The team who get to the end with the best time WINS.
3. If you did the drop off and YOUR MATH is off, you will be forced to
go back to the maze and drop / collect new items. (which will force you to have longer time)
4. THERE WILL BE A PRACTICE ROUND on CALL.
5. We ask that you set aside at 30 mins for this challenge.
(5 mins practice) and max of 20 mins for the actual challenge.
THE LOSING TRIBE (one) will go to tribal council!
GOOD LUCK!
This is DUE, Friday 9PM EST!
